Dr Phillip Gawthrop finally was able to get back out there with me this AM for a couple of hours of crappie fishing. It had been about a year or more since he last fished. We went out at the beginning of the morning bite and fished until it was over and landed 24 crappie, 1 spotted bass, and 1 bluegill. All caught on panfish assassins and stubby butts (same type lure just different company makes it). We only fished 2 colors, albino shad and crystal shad and we added chartreuse spike-it to the tails of each and fished these on 1/32 oz crappie magnet jigheads. The fish were a little deeper this morning than they have been lately, and many were caught just dead sticking the lure about 10-12 feet deep straight down. Of course, the little palsy twitch caused more than one reaction bite too. emoBig

Dr Phil landed a nice spotted bass that got a free ride home with me. I am out of all fish except a couple bags of crappie. I need a trip to the Riverpark to catch a limit of spots. We kept 10 of the 24 crappie. We culled all keepers that were under 11" and had about 8 or 9 undersized fish that will be 11" long next year.

Beautiful day. Mirror calm water, clearing up nicely and 48.7 degrees. Lake level at 676.0 which is winter level and very little flow this morning. The bite this afternoon will be red-hot, but I have other things to do. Planting bushes, digging in the dirt, before the rains come. emoBig
emoGeezer

I forgot to add that most of these fish were caught in places that it was extremely difficult to get the jig back to the fish. We were not fishing open water.
