East canyon report
#1
went to east canyon today. it was pretty crazy with all the skiiers and jetskiers we did manage to land 2 very nice bows in about an hour of trolling. both hit on a #7 frog colored flatfish on the downrigger about 25'

we also tried still fishing for a while with no luck and as soon as the water started getting crowded we left. DZ

Thanks for the report Dan, were there other people fishing or just skiers? How is the water level doing up there? WH2

I think all the Willard skiers went to both East Canyon and Echo. Echo was flooded with them as well.

I know what you mean about the skiers. I was up there fishing a week ago and they were everywhere and when you fish from shore they can be very iritating. We did get alot of fish on Power bait. They seemed to stop biting for awhile after some skiers went there. But had enough of a break between them that we caught alot.

When I was a teenager I fished East Canyon my one and only time (grew up in Payson, so we fished other places which were a lot closer) until I rediscovered it a few years ago. When I was there then, which was over 35 years ago, the speed boats were already a problem. I got fed up with one boat that kept coming close to us while we were fishing from shore. I was casting a heavy spoon when it came by once, so I intentionally seen if I could catch the boat as it came by. I found that it was just barely in reach, and I made a perfect cast. It was quite a fight for a moment with my lure stuck inside of the boat, probably in a seat cushion in the rear of the boat. With my drag screaming, I tighted it and the line snapped.

Way to go kent!!!! Some people deserve what they get, I bet that did a number on some boat upholstery!!![cool] I have had my fair share of throwing anything not tied down in my boat at unconcious boat drivers, then they have the nerve to flip me off!!! Some peoples children.....

When I had a boat I was at East Canyon pulling skiers one day. Being a fisherman the rest of my time on the water, I was particularly conscious of people fishing and I was polite always. But anyway, I had a skier down in the water, I had my flag up, and I was about 100 feet off of the far west shore(well away from people fishing). While the skier was putting on the skiis a boat came past us at about 30mph between us and the shore. This was the second time he had buzzed us so I laid on the horn. Of course he gave me the finger like I was the jerk. I think he had to put down his beer to do it. I was raging mad. But there wasn't a lot I could do. There was no ranger anywhere and my experience is that they are very selctive on who they give tickets to. This kind of thing happened to me many, many times. I hate to say it but I am in favor of requiring a boat license. I believe it would save lives and make outings better for everyone, boaters and fisherman alike.

I share your pain. Once a long time ago I was fishing at the Lindon Boat Harbor at Utah Lake, around the outside on the lake side of the dike, and a boat camp by at quite a good pace, close enough to shore to completely cut my line and make me lose a good rapala, and it was in the no wake zone as well! He had plenty of room to swing wide. He just wanted to be a jerk and bother a poor 12 year old kid!
