Dutrow Wins IFA Kayak Event
#1
LIZELLA, GEORGIA - Jeff Dutrow, of Sopchoppy, Florida, caught a redfish and speckled sea trout totaling 48.5 inches in length to secure a win in the IFA Kayak Tour Presented by Hobie Fishing at Destin on March 14. The event, which operated out of Legendary Marine and open to non-motorized kayaks only, was the third regular-season event overall and first in the Gulf Coast Division for the first-year fishing tour.

Dutrow's 27-inch redfish tied with that of fourth-place finisher's Tyler Maggs, while his 21.5-inch sea trout tied for second-largest of the catch-photograph-release competition. The total length of Dutrow's two fish gave him a 1.25-inch advantage over second-place finisher, Liam Callaghan, winning him a Hobie Mirage Pro-Angler Kayak valued at $2,399.

Fishing oyster beds near St. Marks, Dutrow boated 10 fish on the day, using suspended baits and Strike King Hulus on trout and Berkley Gulp! for redfish.

Callaghan measured a 25.75-inch redfish and a 21.5-inch speckled seas trout for a total length measurement of 47.25 inches on his way to a second-place finish and a new Hobie Mirage Outback kayak, valued at $1,749. Fishing near Apalachicola, Fla., Callaghan boated two fish on the day, both coming on a D.O.A. jerkbait. Third-place finisher, Chris Lewis, of Destin, boated 9 fish on the day, fishing with a Super Spook Jr. in waters near Pensacola, Fla. His 26.25-inch redfish and 18.25-inch speckled seas trout totaled 44.5 inches, winning the local angler a Hobie Quest kayak, valued at $949.

With the largest redfish of the competition, winning the tie as the first angler to report to the weigh in, Dutrow won $200. Fifth-place finisher Timothy Walker also took him $200 in prize money for the largest sea trout, thanks to his 22.5-inch catch.

Each of the Cabela's IFA Redfish Tour 18 regular-season events will commence on Saturday with the newly formed IFA Kayak Fishing Tour Presented by Hobie Fishing contested the following day (Sundays). In its inaugural season, the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour Presented by Hobie will feature 18 regular-season, catch-photograph-release events across six different division (mirroring the IFA Redfish Tour format, location and scheduling) as well as extremely lucrative payouts and expanded fishing opportunities for non-motorized fishing crafts.

The redfish/trout tournament will pay twenty places (based on a 100 boat field) plus Big Redfish, Big Trout and Junior Angler Awards. The winner will take home a Hobie Mirage Pro-Angler valued at $2399, 2nd place prize will be a Hobie Mirage Outback, valued at $1,749 and 3rd place a Hobie Quest, valued at $949.

The IFA Redfish and IFA Kayak Tours continues to draw redfish anglers from Texas to the Carolinas and beyond, offering anglers the opportunity to compete in six different divisions, each offering a three-event regular season. Low entry fees for the one-day, regular-season tournaments allows anglers to fish close to home and minimize expenses, while still being a part of a premier inshore, catch-and-release redfish tournament organization. Teams fishing any three of the IFA's 18 regular-season events are automatically qualified for a no-entry-fee championship event, pitting qualifiers from each of the six divisions for money and prize packages, as well as a shot at the coveted Cabela's Overall Divisional Team of the Year Award for the six regular-season division winners.
