Teroy, how do you use a moon chart? Growing up I was always told and believed that the fishing stinks when it is a full moon and I usually have poor luck catching anything when it is close to full. I also notice that when a low pressure is close or moving through the fishing is hot, the same as overcast with no wind and even a light drizzle.

When I am unable to catch fish with a full moon, it becomes a great excuse that I have been known to use. This year I had a great day of fishing at Strawberry when it was a full moon, so on that occasion, it must have been that I was a great fisherman. Generally, I have struggled fishing during the day time, until at least late in the day, when it is a full moon. I love to fish as a low front is coming in, and I have had unbelievable fishing during storms. I was fishing Willard once when everyone was catching fish from a boil. The wind was blowing from the south, and suddenly switched from the north and the temperature dropped a few degrees. The boil immediately stopped, and no one caught another fish after the wind switched. This year I was fishing Strawberry at night and the fish were eating our minnows nonstop at 2:00 AM. We quit fishing to get some sleep, and at 3:00 AM the wind changed directions from the south to coming out of the north. The next morning I could hardly buy a bite, although I started fishing again at 5:00 AM. Moon phases and weather patterns definitely have an impact on fishing, my problem is I'm never quite sure what the impact will be, and even if I could predict it, I must fish when I have the time to fish, irrespective of the conditions at the time.

Thats so true! If I have time to go fishing....I'll go. I don't care if it's the middle of the day on the worst day to fish of the year. Gotta get it in while you can! Although, that information is very helpful...about when it's best to catch fish. I've heard that when there's a full moon, many more fish stay up all night gorging themselves, because they can more easily see their prey, yet stay hidden from predators like eagles and osprey. Then, during the day, they just lay around lazy and full....correct me if I'm wrong.

Teroy this is a very nice moon phase map,I would like to know where you found it,and the best fishing is three days after a new moon, till you get to a quarter moon,I have noticed that trout are the exception, there not as affected, wipers almost shut down during the full moon phase, unless your fishing at night when there feeding, perch no real affect, walleye fishing at night with a full moon is pretty good, but is not very good during the day, smallmouth not much affected,My prefrence is the the new moon to quarter moon phase, but will go fishing anytime I can get out.
Tight Lines.
Teroy any info would be great.
