Off the Snide
#1
Went to Pineview on Monday. I finally caught my first Musky. He was about 40 inches but due to the light conditions. (There wasn't any) I wasn't able to get a picture. It only took 6 hookups over the last month to finally land one but I'm confident in my ability to catch another now. I'll take the digital next time so I have a flash and picture enhancing ability.

Congrats on finally hooking into one. What part of the lake and what was the lure used and method? I want to get up there again real soon.

Well Monday the only bite we had was just after dark. We had trolled from about 6 P.M. all over the south end of the lake from the East end down to just before they Wakeless buoyes at the start of the Narrows. We finally took off the Fire tigers (I was using a j13 rapalla and my host was using a Firenzy Fire Tiger). He switched to the Firenzy Jumbo firetiger and I switched to one of the Bill Dance Fat Free Lite's One of the big ones but I don't know what the color is. It is sort of auqa blue on top and green on the bottom. That seemed to be the ticket. Within 15 minutes I caught a nice small mouth, a huge carp (Hooked him in the side and thought it was a musky for a minute) then the real musky. We did see muskies rolling most of the evening on the surface though so I can't tell if they are all deep or if I just got lucky.

It seems if you hook one then you are lucky, very few are caught up there. But what a rush isn't it? Thanks for the report and info it makes me want to leave the office now for some fishing at pine view. Also, how was the water depth and launch you used?

We launced at the main marina. No problems at all water depth is still good and lots of big boats getting on and off. But the levels do seem to be dropping quite a bit, although I still think it was lower last year at this time.

[Wink] Way to go! I have been once in the last week and was skunked. After a trip I had last fall I want to catch a musky so bad I can't stand it.

I was fishing for perch last year in the fall with my sonand a friend and caught a tiger totally unprepared for one. We were jigging on the boat slips at cemetary point when a guy walking along the shore tossing a huge Daredevil with two little blades comes by. We could tell he was fishing for tiger musky and asked how he was doing. It was a cloudy night and looked like it was going to storm(I have read that this is great musky fishing weather) He replied that he had caught two 36" tigers and lost one. My friend asked what I thought and I told him that I thought the guy was full of it.

20 minutes later and 75 yards from us we see him measuring a 38" musky.

We all through on the biggest Daredevil we had and started casting. My friend was not using steel lead and lost on right away. Just before dark I hooked a big musky. It jumped clear out of the water 5 or 6 times with the sunset in the background. I had 8lb test and a steel leader. By the time I had the fish at my feet I did'even know it was there. There was no moon and it was so dark I didnt even know it was right at my feet. My friend reached to grab it and the Daredevil popped out and it kicked off the shore and was gone.

All I have left from the trip is a Daredevil with a seriously bent hook, it was only hooked with on barb of the treble and a steel leader nearly wore through from the tooth it was tangled around. Ill never forget the trip and I'll never quit fishing for Tiger Musky.

Congrats on that Muskie . I hope to be in this catergory sometime soon . I know I've casted plenty for them . LOL Just curious what is "off the snide " about this report . I almost didn't read this post , didn't think it had anything to do with Pineview . LOL ! I'm only confident about this fish making me work for it . But I need the practice casting for it . I always got a flash with my camera just my shutter doesn't work all the time .Too bad you didn't get a pic .
