I think the problem with bait fisherman is not that the fish die too often even if the line is cut. The problem is that people don't want to waste a baithook and swivel (a measly 10 to 20 cents!!) and don't want to have to take the time to tie on a new one, especially when the fishing is good, so they just rip it out even when it is deep hooked, throw it back into the water with a trail of blood following it, and the fish appears belly up 30 seconds later. I've seen people do that all too often and it really ticks me off!
