Hal, Chick - Sale Creek, Crappie, 4-29-10, Catfish1
#1
Got all my running around done by noon and decided to head for the lake. Put in at Sale Creek and fish around that area tryin' to find some new territory, Wink It was a beautiful day to be on the lake but a bit windy with some white caps showing up on the lake around 2 PM, :o I caught several crappie, some 13's and 12's then the big boy hit, :o emoBigSmile With a short fight I netted a nice 16 & 1/2 inch, 2 lb 4 oz, white crappie caught on a BG Licorice Chartreuse on a 1/16 leadhead. When you see one like that beside the boat all you can say is, "Please don't get off, please don't get off, 'till I can get the net under you!" emoBigSmile After that, about 3:30 I headed to the dock to pick up Catfish1 from work and we set out to do a bit more exploring on the river. We fished 'till almost 8 PM with a total of 26 crappie and 1 little spaaatt. We had several bream bites today but didn't catch any of them. I'm thinking that they were just too small to swallow the 1/16th jig. Maybe the big boys will show up soon, emoTongue Most fish were caught today in at least 15 FOW and most on a 6 count. The jig of the day seemed to be BG Licorice Chartreuse and Bone Whi/Chartreuse on 1/16th leadheads. Head color didn't seem to matter much today, emoScratch We had about a 75% keeper rate today and Catfish1 took 14 home to the grease emoThumbsup I did release the 16 & 1/2 inch big white boy, hopefully he will survive and make a 17+ for someone by next year. Looked to me like all the fish were spawned out but did catch a couple dark males in the mix, emoThumbsup It was fun Jim and lookin' forward to the next one, emoThumbsup
