Hit Raccoon Mtn at 5:30 today and rode up into the gorge to our standard banks. The day started off pretty slow with only one spot on a spinnerbait in the first 30 minutes. Then things started to heat up. Pitched my pig n jig over by a large rock and stuck the 4.9 lber. About 15 minutes later Alvin sticks the 4.7 lber. A short time later Alvin boated a 17" that went around 2.25 lbs. About 20 minutes after that Alvin boates the 4.2 lber. Not a bad stretch of bank. Along the way we boated a few spots, a channel cat and a google eye. I stuck something that took me to deep water and I never slowed it down. Either a huge drum or large blue cat. All fish excet for the first spot came on pig n jigs.
Left the gorge and came back down to the pump station. Boated 5 more bass with a nice 2.6 lb largemouth to round out our limit. Ended up with 9 largemouth (7 keepers, best 3 went 13.6 lbs and the best 5 went 18.7 lbs), 9 spots, 1 channel cat and one google eye. The 18.7 lb sack is my all time person best and the largest sack I have seen come from the gorge. The wind was a little wild at time but overall an awsome evening on the water and not a bad way to spend 3.5 hours.
The three largest fish were spawned out females that would have went over 5 and close to 6 lbs prespawn. Most of them had bloody tails and my guess is these are the last wave of spawners that spawned last week during the new moon. Water temp is still a cool 72 degrees on the river. All fish came within 5 feet of the bank.
Just wish we were fishing a tourny tonight.
