Trolling questions - how to fish at certain depth
#1
Hello, I recently moved to AZ from WA and am deciding to head up into the mountains to do some fishing. I mostly do small creeks and streams for smaller rainbows but have decided to rent a boat up at Big Lake in AZ to try my hand at lake fishing. I will mostly be trying to fish for rainbows.

According to the fishing reports, trolling with cowbells at 10 feet with a spinner attached has been the best bet from a boat but had a few questions.

It looks like the cowbells have a rudder so I should tie those directly to my line... then I have a 1ft leader to a swivel and my spinner at the end. The fishing reports say about 10ft deep trolling has been working, what techniques can I use to ensure I am fishing at that depth or lower? Do I need to add some weight and possibly use a 3-way swivel somewhere in the mix to do this? How many oz of weight do you think will work to troll at around 10 feet?

My current setup has only 4lb test, should this be enough, there have been reports of people pulling some decent 3-5lb trout and was wondering if it might be worth it to put some heavier test on there.

Any other advice for a first time boat fisherman would be very welcome, thanks for any help you can offer Smile

Regards,
Aaron
