Jmax, Chick, Bass, Tues dog fight, 4th place,, 07/6/10, Colby
#1
Had a good evening fishing with Colby but the big ones avoided us. We did about the same thing we have been doing with the same baits we have been doing it with but fell short on bringing in the big ones. Blasted off at 6:30 with the other 23 boats in the tournament. Looked like half went up and half went down. We headed for a 20 foot ledge on the river and started drop shotting and cranking. Just when I thought they were not going to hit a nice 3.25 crushed my crank. Got it in the net and told Colby we needed two more like that one. emoBigSmile Next cast same spot another one that was 16.5 inches comes in. I thought we were onto something but that was it there. Caught another keeper about 15.5 inches on the dropshot. Trolled around for a while and caught a couple more slicks on both the drop and crank. Finally when we were thinking about moving all together Colby caught another 16.5 incher on the drop, culled out the 15.5 incher. Try as we might hitting docks, grass, drops and ledges we could not upgrade on what we had in the well.

Hit the grass flats with 45 minutes to go and told Colby it was about time for him to loose his nightly big one. emoEvil Two cast later with a shakey he sets the hook hard and the drag goes out. He makes a couple turns of the handle and off it comes. emoDoh He claims his drag was too loose. I think he just lost his nightly big one. emoPoke We put about five more in the boat with two more keepers but nothing to help. We ended our night with about 20 bass in the boat, eight keepers and our best three went 8.29 lbs. emoRolleyes Best five would have been about 13 lbs.

Victor Rowe won it with 12.30 lbs anchored by a nice one at 5.29 lbs. Treeman came in second on his heels with 11.97 lbs. with three that looked the same. His best was 4.33 lbs. Big bass honors were taken by the team of Steve and Kenneth with a nice one at 5.45 lbs.

No current, very little wind, water clearing up a lot, temp on top was 87. Our best baits were cranks, drops, shakeys and a swim. Best locations were grass edges and ledges.

C-ya on the water. emoAngler Jmax
