I hit the water this afternoon with my son Kyle in search of some fish worth catching. We spent most of our time running sonar passes looking for some schools of bass. We finally found a a decent sized blob in 21 feet of water. I have been dying to try a drop shot with a Gulp Minnow on some deep bass and I was not dissappointed. First cast on about the 3rd or 4th shake I felt one load up. I had the drag set too light and couldn't make up any ground on it. I tighten the drag and start working it toward the boat. Kyle grabs the net and is getting in position to make the snag. We see some green and it obviously a large bass. Then it happens. Just as Kyle is reaching down the bass comes unbuttoned. We both got to see it so we will call it a near miss. I have weighed a lot of bass over the past few years so I have a pretty good idea for size and weight. I would be willing to wager it was between 6-7 pounds.

I backed off that spot and didn't make another cast. We moved to another spot about 1/2mile away. It had a much smaller blob of fish and we caught a couple of nice keepers. I SURE DO HOPE THESE FISH STAY PUT UNTIL MONDAY NIGHT.
