A buddy of mine wants to go fishing at Mud Lake and i have never been there. Can anyone give me any advice on how and where to fish?
Also my friend really likes bass fishing. I suggested Ririe but does anyone know anywhere else to go? We are both in Rexburg so anywhere close would be nice.
Thanks!

I'd probly skip mud lake since it hasn't had a good report in 2 years now. Bad winter kill couple winters back. In that direction you could got a little further and hit birch creek for lots of smallish trout. For bass Ririe is your best bet but the snake river below Idaho Falls to American Falls reportedly has some decent bass fishing, if you can find them. Access is the primary issue. If you want to drive a little further below American Falls Res. has had good bass fishing reports. Not sure where to target from shore though if you don't have a boat.

Bass are tough to find in this area. Ririe really is the only place around here where you can find them consistently. Some people know where they are on the snake below IF but I don't.
Like has been state Mudlake is really tough. There are a few perch left in there but they havn't come back full bore yet.

Thanks for the info. I have heard that Mud Lake is not too good. I guess we will have to go for some trout on the snake.

Fished mud lake awhile back and no fish whatsoever.
Fished Rire this morning and not much luck from anyone on the lake.
Fished the South Fork around Heise and the fishing was good.

I was thinking about heading out that way. What were you using and catching? My friend likes to bait fish but i prefer spinners.

If you fish at Ririe and try to hit the bass, worms and grubs may be your best bet. You can walk down to the dam and get the best bass spots.
For South Fork I always use "Pot o Golds" on the browns. Cutts will take it too, but mostly browns. Pot o Golds are very cheap so losing one isn't a big deal. The best place to buy them is the Sinclair station in Rigby, they have a great selection.
But rapalas, Kastmasters, and blue fox will also work on the South Fork.
South Fork you will catch rainbows, cutts, hybrids, and the occassional utah sucker.
