Carl Guffey, Ft. Loudoun, Bass, 7/27/2010
#1
I went out this morning just to check the fish out. I haven't seen fish breaking in over a week and I was wondering where they had gone. I was working on a cabinet, so I would urethane one side, go fish and let it dry, after a hour I would return and do another side. Not bad, work and fish all at the same time.
At 7 o'clock this morning the main channel on Loudoun was 87.5 degrees, so I suspected that the fish had gone deep and I was right. While sitting in 40 ft. of water I was catching good fish almost under the boat on a CR. I missed the very first fish because the rig just got heavy. I didn't miss the next one. The fish are just hanging on the bait and are very lethargic. After catching several good fish I tried a jigging spoon and a deep jerk bait, no fish. Next I changed over to a silver buddy and things changed in a hurry. The fish would actually hit the buddy on the way down and just sit there and hold the bait so you really had to watch your line. The first couple of fish were white bass and yet you would see largemouth swimming with them trying to take the bait away. I was sitting over 36 ft. of water catching fish off the bottom. I had some good fish on , but I need to sharpen some hooks.emoBang I lost some fish today that were pulling drag , but I didn't get to see them. I will try to do better next time.......
