Rodney and I got on the water around 5:30 or so this evening and fished until 9:20.
Started the day off on mainlake drops. The bite was slow, wasnt marking many fish, but came over a school here and there. Slowly made our way to about 13-14 fish in a couple hours, with a couple small keepers. Eventually we got up into a slough and started fishing some trees with the ol shakeyhead.
Bite was slow doing that as well. But pulled up a couple spots. Hooked into one that was a much better fish than what we've been catching so far. It measured 18" and fought nice and hard.
We had 17 or 18 fish in the boat by 8:30.
Headed to another main lake drop. Started catching a few more, then by 8:50 the bite just turned on! Casted way up shallow on the top of a point, be fore I could start working my bait I had one grab it. Set the hook and it just took off! Started fighting this thing a little bit and noticed it was shaking its head very hard. I was thinking is this a catfish? Rodney reached down and grabbed the net. The fish came up and made some big swirls up on the surface and went back down. Pulled it close to the boat and sure enough it was a 4-5lb spaaat. The fish made one more run and the hook pulled loose emoBang emoBang emoBang I got so aggravated that I was screaming to the top of my lungs! emoLaugh emoBang I still cant get over it.
Fished another 20-30 minutes, caught another 10 or so fish off that point using dropshots and shakeyheads. Ended up catching one more decent spot going about 16".
Great evening on the water very nice weather. But dadgumit those big spots are so mean when you hook one. I am still yet to catch a 5+ spot, have hooked a few on Parksville but they always either break my line or pull so hard that the hook rips out of their mouth. So aggravating! Hopefully I can catch one before the year ends. emoWorthy
Good luck on the water, and enjoy the pics.
