After doing a little hunting property viewing today with a couple CFFers I took time to do a little backwoods fishing. I loaded up one trusty rod n reel a hand full of Creme Grape 6" scoundrel worms a few good hooks. I had to ride my 4-wheeler back into the woods where there are about seven old ponds that were created from strip minning about 50 - 60 years ago out on Cagle Mtn. The biggest pond was pretty hard to access so I moved on to a pond a couple hundred yards long and about forty yards wide I caught about six bass from the big pond. The big pond was good but a little too far between hits. In the smaller pond I got a big swirl on the first cast right at the bank. The second cast produced a fat and healthy scrapper of a bass. I was getting hit at minimum every third cast. I think I caught about sixteen fat and sassy bass from that pond. All the bass caught were safely released. The fished weighed from about 1 1/2 lb to about 3 lbs. At least ten of them topped 2 lbs. I had to leave early because the seed ticks and chiggers from the earlier jaunts through the woods were about to drive me crazy. It was a great experience to go to those old ponds and find fat scrappy fish like I did.
