Labman, Chickamauga, Bass ++, 08/30/2010, Solo - my best bass day on Chick - Pic heavy
#1
Got out about 7:30 from CFP. Going to try some different techniques for bass. 1st stop, marked some fish on 15' flat adjacent to drop to 26'. Caught 1st fish of the day on jigging spoon. Tried shaky head and got hit right away with nice 2.5#LM. Next two hits were cats and I decided to move on to main area I wanted to try.

Marked an unbeliveable number of fish on a 19'-24' flat near a channel drop to 36'. Not too far from main river channel. I rigged up a drop shot with gulp 4" minnow and the game was on. I started catching good fish immediately. The day was overcast and the water cooler so I guess that is why the fish were shallower. Each time I caught a bass it seemed to be better than the one before. Some really nice fish holding there. At on time I had 4 markers out and was just working around and between them. Fish were everywhere on a large area on the flat.

I stayed in that general area for about 3.5 hours and caught 17 LM Bass there, with 9 weighing from 3# to just under 5#. By far my best day for quality fish and probably numbers too on Chick. It was amazing and lots of fun. Also caught 4 drum, biggest about 10#, 4 cats, and several yellow bass. You had to be there to appreciate the number of fish holding on that flat.

I did make one change to my dropshot rig, left a longer space between hook and weight and that got the bait up about 2.5' off the bottom. Seemed to help as I got fewer cats than usual and some very nice bass. I tried a trick that Mr Whiskers showed me of slacking the line and letting the bait fall to the bottom and resting it a few seconds, them tightening it back up to regular level. Had one bass pick it up while it lay on the bottom, and several hit when started to fall and/or started back up. Thanks Michael.

Lot of pictures, sorry about the quality of some of them, I was busy and the fish were bitting so no time to compose a good picture.

Regards, Labman
