Got a call from a buddy today on the way home from working a night at the ER to fish over the noon hour or so. I was pretty tired after working all night and had to stop at Sam's for some groceries on the way home and I told him that I would call him if I could do it. Of course I decided that fishing was more important than sleeping so we went at a little after noon. We scoped out the end of a hump that has had some fish, with my electronics and it didn't look like the fish were thick there so we went out to deeper water. As we approached the spot I could see Labman's boat not far from where I was headed so stopped by to say hi and be sure that he didn't mind us fishing for some of the yellow bass and he said come on! We caught a few right near him and then the fish seemed to move and we let the wind push us for a distance and contacted another good group of fish. Soon after we arrived, up came Drumking, looking to score with us too. It's great to see good friends and share the great fishing with them even though we hadn't planned to get together. We fished a group of fish until they moved on or quit biting then went looking for other groups of fish in the area with my electronics. There were fish everywhere but we fished only the areas that looked to have active fish and bait in the area and each time we caught fish. Most of the fish were yellow bass but we did catch a few good cats in the 3-5lb range, a couple of drum in the 6-9lb range and only one bass near 2lbs. At times the bite was fast and furious and I had 9 and 6 casts in a row with fish landed. We fished for a bit more than 2 hours and ended up conservatively with between 60 and 70 fish. We were just out to get bit and the yellows are great for that. Had a great short trip and didn't even break off once today. On some trips I have lost up to 8 jigging spoons on a trip and so that was great. It was also great that we were highly successful even though the wind blew like crazy the whole time and the cruisers were out in force today making it very hard to control the boat and keep it in position. It was a great time out there under tough conditions but still a lot of fun.
