Adopt a cove
#1
The Nevada Striper Club held their first Adopt a Cove event today at Lake Mead. The reason I am sharing this with you guys is; the amount of garbage we found on a shoreline that is not frequented by many was absolutely riddled with trash. 27 volunteers pick up 500 lbs of trash over the course of 2 hours. Needless to say, there is still a lot of work to be done throughout the Lake if we want to make an impact.

It was a very rewarding experience and I would like to see more of the same in the future. We are planning another outing in March. If anyone would like to join us please sign up for the Striper Club's free monthly e-newsletter. When you receive it, reply that you would like to be updated on the adopt a cove outings.

Fish Hard and the Rewards Will Come!

Good on ya! Whenever I fish from the bank I take a trash bag along to pick up trash after the TRASH that leave it behind. Kinda disheartening to go back later & not be able to see what you've done though. At least my conscience is clear.

Good job guys [cool] we need people like you so our lake dosent turn into a giant landfill. I always pick the trash and old tackle from the 33 hole area but people just keep leaving their crap behind I even met a guy who thought he was doing the right thing by burying all his trash.

Thanks Tony for putting this together. It's the only way we can make an impact.

Go to the web site! Sign up for the newsletter! Join their trash pick-up!

The next one is in March. That leaves plenty of time to plan for it.

The Bass Anglers Federation just adopted a strech of highway (going to the toll booth from North Vegas) and we did a pick-up not too long ago.

It was a good time out there. We got a lot done.

I would like to set up something with this forum.

We could meet up for a once-a-month trash pick-up.
We pick a spot (like one of [url "http://www.bigfishtackle.com/cgi-bin/gforum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=63570"]these[/url]), and go clean for a few hours.

If I organize it, who would go?

I would be down to lend a hand picking trash. I might even be able to talk a buddy or two into it also... It would be cool to fish with everyone after the trash pick up.

Been real busy with work n family [crazy] but go ahead and post up the dates and I'll see if we can make it. Usually hit 33 hole every weekend I pick up the surrounding area I fish, Im lucky if it stays that way when I come out the next weekend but hey thats how it goes. It would help alot if the park service put some 50 gal drums down there(33hole) and emptied em every couple weeks. Its a long hard hike back up and people carry as little as possible first thing to go is the trash. I see coolers left behind all the time bout half way up the hill until then[fishin]

We are volunteers with the park service. Our assignment is to coordinate and organize an recycling program thru out Lake Mead Rec. Area (that's Mojave & Mead).
Yesterday went out with a crew of volunteers (the OZ CREW) just south of Lake Mead Marina to do shore clean up. Within half an hour a crew of nine had the pantoon boat loaded with trash. Looks like most people don't care. We have seen the same all over the country even with trash can in place people dump their trash on the ground.
We went in and of loaded and went on to Kingman wash and the same story.
I glad that you all care about this great place you have here.
Keep it up and spread the word.
Saturday we have a clean up day at Cottonwood Cove.
We will be there by 8 am.
Will be posting pictures.

It's not just lake mead that gets trashed, there are countless other areas around town that are filled with trash/furniture/car parts/etc that has been illegally dumped. I've been out to stewarts point, echo bay, mt charleston, the huge vacant lot near hollywood/lakemead blvd (to name a few places) with my premedical honors society (AED) to help "Dont trash nevada" pick up tons of trash.
