Reel Advice
#1
So I am fairly new to fishing. I went camping about 6 months ago and I fished with my brother in law. It was my actual first time since fishing with the push button Zebco's as a kid.

My step-dad's dad died about 6 years back but left us about 10 rods and reels. One is a vintage Abu Garcia reel that is selling for 150 dollars in mint condition on ebay and it is on 7' Daiwa medium-heavy action rod. The guides need to be replaced but it is in great condition. There were also 2 Shakespeare SKP 4000s, and I have read they are good beginner reels, and were about $45-55 new.

One reel is a Shakespeare Sigma SS 440 P and I just can't seem to find anything about it. I would like to know its original cost and what it is best used for. Any one know?

I am not looking to sell anything, but put in a little life back into them since they have been sitting around so long. I have taken them all apart, cleaned and oiled them. I caught my first red fish, 25 inches, off a pier in Clear Lake, Texas a few weeks ago.

The shakespear sigma is an el'cheapo. Shakespear, infact, really doesn't make a high quality fishing reel. On the other hand, Shakespear probably makes some of the better fishing rods on the market, at a good price. Ugly Stik for one.

I'd get rid of everything that says Shakespear, and use the money to replace drags on the good reels, and eyes on the good rods.

Just my 2 cents........
