Got out about 3:30 today to test the late evening bite. I wanted to check the mouth of Dallas Bay to see if any big fish were starting to set up on the creek edge. Tons of bait fish in Dallas Bay. I stopped and threw a spinner bait on some grass on the way out with no bites.

Marked several fish on one side of the creek at about 22'. dropped down a gulp minnow on dropshot and had a strong pull and take immediately. This was a heavy fish, could feel some head shakes but no long runs. All of a sudden up it comes, and is a huge bass. I would guesstimate from 7-8#. However, it is just a fish story as it sounded again, fought it back to the surface and watched the hook pull out as I reached for the net and let the line slack just the least bit. emoBang emoBang Couldn't get another bite there, so moved out to the main channel to check some flats and edges.

The flats off the main channel were just covered with bait and marked lots of fish below them. Could not get a bite, tried several different techniques, and nothing. Noted some clouds forming and the wind picked up a lot. Really cooled down and figured someone was getting some rain.

About 5:30 looked like the front was pretty much done, and the wind died down. Fish started to turn on. I caught 6 keepers, in two location, about 16' just off the river channel with a drop to 44' and a flat of about 12' with a drop to 26'. These flats were just full of baitfish. All caught on dropshot with green gulp minnow. Largest about 3.75 and rest from 2-3#.

Saw Polo-dog and some friends heading out to do some crappie chasing. I figured he would be out following the front, his favorite time I think. Still a lot of fish and bait on the main channel, but shouldn't be long before the mouths of the creeks and shallow weeds should pickup.

Regards, Labman

site will not attach pics right now, will try later.
