So I'm Heading to Jordanelle...
#1
The last time I fished Jordanelle was the first weekend it was open to fishing some years ago. Parked right off of hwy 40 and walked down to the lake. Can't park there anymore, I guess, so it's $9 for us this time.

Anyway, I'll be up there tomorrow at 6am, fishing from shore near rock cliff park. My life long fishing experience has been 99.99 percent trout so I figure, "what the hell, break out the fillet knife." Hopefully, that is.

So, any advice on snagging some smb's? Figured I'd toss out some perch meat once I get some. Any tips on where to bank toss from the 'nelle? I know you guys fish there a lot, so help a novice out, heh? Thanks, fella angla's!

Perch perch and more perch is what you can expect. If you want some perch just fish at the end of the road. If you want to be adventerous and looking for smallies you can walk the path along the water and try fishing the points and submerged shorline brush but expect a ton of perch and maybe a smallie if your lucky. I'm sure someonelse with more "Nelle" experience will post a more detailed reply.

Good Luck,

Howdy Junksiege,

I was up there on Saturday at Rockcliff at the end of the raod. It was the first time that I had taken my 3 yr old daughter fishing so I thought catching a lot of perch was a good idea to keep her entertained and help her to like fishing. Well, it was and it wasn't a good idea. We caught a lot of them. They were all whoppers between 3 and 5 powerful inches. We didn't stay a long time and I was sharing a pole with my daughter because the cheapo fishing pole I bought for her didn't even work for one cast. So I didn't have time to find some bigger fish. We were on the shore so we were fairly limited on what we could do. 9 bucks was a lot to pay to get in there. We first went to Hailstone but there were so many people and no good fishing spots without walking pretty far. Heck, we didn't even use the restrooms.

I fished a jig below a bobber. At first the jig was too big. I could feel and see hits but I couldn't hook any until I put on a smaller jig. I was tipping the hook with a worm but I soon found that wasn't necessary. Most fish were caught only 4 feet from shore.

By the way, we took a drive up to Smith and Morehouse. We didn't fish but the lake looked great. It has more water than I thought it would but there is a lot more going out than going in. I should have taken your advice and gone there instead of Jordanelle.

I hope you do better than I did. Good luck to you.

I would recommend getting away from shore for bass and perch . I have hooked smallies from shore early in the morning right where the highway ends . Smallies I have caught were on jigs while I working them along bottom . Chartreuse and white are good colors and keep them small 2" . I did get a nice fish on a senko out in my tube but it broke off before I got it to come up . I should check my knots more often . Top water lures get strikes in the morning on some of my outing . Good luck
