Hi all
#1
I'm back from an awesome summer working at camp maple dell. Which is a BSA run camp, for those of you who are more ignorant than others[Wink]. Anyways, I only got two opportunities to fish the whole summer. What a DRAG! I came home for a week and went tube trolling at Kolob and only caught a couple. It was very slow, and I couldn't even get them to bite a woolly bugger. It ended up being on some streamer that I don't even know the name of. I was with the guy that taught me to fly fish, and he is one of the best fly fisherman I know, and he couldn't have caught more than 5. This was in a few hours. Like I said, it was slow. Then, later on I went to the Provo just below Deer Creek, and I have to admit that it was really one of the first times I'd ever fly fished on a river (I've actually also done it on the Henry's Fork with similar luck), especially one that big of one. I caught nothing and only fished for maybe a half hour before I got tired of it. Well, anyways, I am glad to be back. I look forward to my next trip to kolob, and that first crack I take at a pine hen in the fall. Anyways, just thought I'd say hi, and hopefully you all had a great rest from me and my annoying posts, buy too bad for you guys because I'm back for another year. BUM BUM BUM!!!

Maple Dell is up Payson canyon. Hey MountainMain, they wouldn't let you sneak in some fishing at the lake they have up there at the scout camp (I assume it is still there and still has fish in it)? As a kid (that was a few moons back), I used to do very well fishing that lake during my scout camps.

Hey moutian man how big were the fish up at kolob. I seen em I wasn't fishing however. They look very big. You should give wiper fishing a try on the fry rod it's a hoot

Well, That's correct. Maple dell is right up payson canyon, and yes there is a small lake there, but along with it are small fish. I must admit I brought my equipment, and I could have gone fishing, but I was at a lack for time, and quite frankly interest. That lake is a moss monster. I decided it wasn't worth the very little amount of time that I did have, so I didn't go fishing out of it. The first week was the only time I saw any real good action. The trout I caught in Kolob, were probably in the 15-17 inch range that I caught that day, but there are plenty in the 18-22 inch range if you know where to go and what to use. Anyone know what the action is like up there right now? I plan to go up there eventually, but I'm still trying to recover from the daze of camp. Anyways, I would like to give wipers a try someday, or even stripers I think would be excellent on a fly rod, unfortunately, I have no clue how to catch very many kinds of warm water fish. The opportunities are usually more open for trout.
