My neighbor loves to have fish frys for all of his employees and so we went to get some crappie for just such an occasion. I picked him up just before 4 PM and we tried for deep crappie to begin and to end our trip but the fish just aren't there yet. After the deep fish didn't cooperate we headed for some docks that have been holding fish for me recently and had a great time. The fish were not all that aggressive and the cruisers were out in force sending a constant barrage of big waves to contend with but we still caught lots of fish. Most fish were caught on a 6 count on 1/32oz jigs with panfish assassins. There were lots more fish under the docks that we were fishing but they just weren't biting. I caught three scales on the end of my hook on one dock as I am certain my line must have been over a fish's back and when I set the hook all I had on the line was my jig with a crappie scale impaled on the tip. We ended up with 18 keepers, some were real slabs! It's great that the fish are so shallow and are starting to really turn on. I know that the best fishing days of the year are yet to come. Here is Jim with a few fish. Jokingly I asked him if he had a fillet knife and he said, only about 10,000 of them in the warehouse. He owns a cutlery business.
