Every time that I have been over to Tims Ford to fish with Rick for walleyes, the weather has been less than ideal. Also, did not come on a good moon phase. I told him the last time that I wasn't coming back until we got a good moon phase. As it turns out, the moon phase didn't do any good for the walleyes. We never caught a single eye. However, we did get into some exciting fishing.

We were sitting on the first hump and had been fishing for about 15 minutes when Rick hung a good fish. I scrambled and got the net ready and Rick was begging the fish to stay on. It did. Turned out to be his very first carp on a blade bait. Nice looking "smallmouth" with huge scales and an orange tail. emoBig
He also caught a small yellow bass there too.

A few minutes later on the same structure, I hung a very good fish and Rick got the net and after a really good battle at the boat, he netted a very nice 3.5-4.0 lb smallie for me. I'm guessing closer to 3.5 than 4.0, but a beautiful fish nevertheless. That's it on the walleye fishing. Not another bite, so we switched tactics and tried some crappie fishing.

First stop was a vertical structure that showed some fish on one end, but after 20 minutes of casting to them with no bites, we decided to change locations. It was a very good move. Next stop was very near a dock where we proceed to catch 30 crappie. Of the 30 fish that we caught in that location, only 1 fish was less than 11 inches long, but we threw back 4 total. 26 keepers from that spot that produced 5 TARP black nosed crappie. I was lucky enough to land 4 of them and Rick landed the other TARP. They were 14.0, 14 1/8, 14.5, 15.0, and 15.5 inches. We weighed the biggest one and it was 2.5 lbs.

Onto another spot to try to pick up our final 4 keepers and we did that in about 10-15 minutes. Good quality fish.

It was the best quality day of crappie fishing that I have ever had. I have had better numbers on the Chick and Watts Bar, but not the size of these monsters. The 30 keepers weighed 35 lbs 12 ozs. I fished with a BG mo-glo ghost with a chartreuse tail light on a 1/16 oz head and Rick used a BG Shad Monkey Milk with a tail light. I let the jig settle for a 7 count before retrieving the lure. I almost felt bad for Rick because he was netting every fish. By the time that he netted one for me and put the net back up, I had another fish on, so I kept him busy, but he finally got in on the action and held his own pretty good. I am sure that all the tarps weighed over 2 lbs apiece.

Let's do this again in a couple of weeks, Rick. Maybe we can get Bill to go with us next time. Thank you for taking me fishing. emoBig
