I've been thinking about going over and fishing Watts Bar for a couple of weeks now. I decided it was time to make the trip over there today. Arrived at Hornsby Hollow boat ramp just at daylight and got started on some shallow docks.
Picked up a one keeper crappie and one throw back plus a gill on my first 6ft dock. Moved over to an adjacent dock and picked up a channel cat. From there I went out and fished some lay downs in 20ft water and picked a nice 14 1/2" Tarp crappie. Fished it for a while longer and only caught a gill or two. Headed over to some more docks and started shooting to pick up another channel cat and another gill or so. The next few docks were duds so I headed on out to the main channel. First dock produced nothing but while hand starting my outboard I noticed my pull cord was just about to come into. I thought Oh Crap! emoEek It was like way to early to quit fishing.
I decided to ride around and scout out some of the docks on the Bar. Came across this great looking dock that I just had to fish. With the fear of my starter cord breaking I opted to just leave the outboard running instead of shutting it off and risk it breaking off so far out from the ramp.
This dock had to be one of the toughest docks to shoot I had ever seen. But I got my jig in there and low and behold on a 4 count here comes my second TARP Crappie of the day at 14 1/2". Here I ended up catching one short, 5 fish over 13" ( two of which were Black Nose crappie), and a total of 3 TARPs off this one dock. That gave me a total of 4 TARP crappie for the day, all of which, believe it or not measured 14 1/2". And my outboard is running the whole time. The fish turned off here and I moved on to other docks and picked up yet another gill, a smallmouth, and a stripe. Called it quits and head back to the ramp at about 12:30.
The BG Shad color choice today was MoGlo Ghost on 1/32 at a 4 count.
