As far as I know, this is the only stretch that is mainly trout water. Below Eagle Rock the river changes in type, temperature, etc. and becomes mainly smallmouth and carp water. The pressure is high enough in the dam to Eagle Rock stretch that it requires some help to maintain the quality of the fishery especially once they drop the water and the fish become more accessible to the masses. If you fish there before it closes you'll see the amount of carnage there.
