Bill, Adam, and I headed up to the river today to try our hand at some big Smallmouth. Bill and I have caught hundreds of 4-6lb Smallmouth the past few years in the river and today we boated approx 40 bass but only 1 Smallmouth.

We used my new Humminbird 1197 to locate a few new areas and also found 2 schools in 10-15ft on a ledge. If not for SI there is no way we'd have located one of the schools. It was on a do-nothing bank that was straight as the road. The fish were relating to a very small section of chunk rock bottom. There were fish of all species in the schools, bass, stripers, hybrids, catfish, bream, hickory shad, drum, and at least one UGLY smallmouth that we know of LOL. We caught most all our fish out of the two schools. Also got some awesome snapshots of the SI and DI Sonar. The definition of the SI and DI is amazing. I've logged thousands of hours using my 997 SI over the past 3 years but I'm still amazed by the technology, it never gets old.

We caught fish on Spinnerbaits, Jerkbaits, Tubes, and Drop Shots. Adam actually caught 4 fish on his first 4 casts of the day. Not to bad for a Lanier Grad.

I've added a few pics from today. The next to last picture is really cool. The cloudy portion in the middle of the picture is a small bait ball being attacked from all sides. It's a cool picture. I also added a couple of different color pallets, my favorite for Side Imaging is the Blue but Down Imaging I like the Amber a little better. Adam took more pics of the fish from today, he'll add on later I'm sure.

Sorry I can't get the pics to upload so here's a link. http://forum.gon.com/showthread.php?t=584806

LB
