I'm desperate to do a little liquid stillwater fishing this week with the warmer weather. Being restricted to the rivers for the last few weeks, since I don't ice fish, has me missing the open water.
So my question: is Springfield still completely open? I know it doesn't usually freeze at least fully but I'd like to confirm fully/mostly open water before I head there instead of to some moving water.
Thanks

You might want to try Crystal Springs Pond . It is very close to Springfield and never freezes . Curt G.

I can't confirm it, but Springfield is usually open.

I fished it last Wednesday and yeah there is some open water but not much. You will have the west finger to fish along with the areas on the North side of the road. The fising was ok, not great....I would say the lake was about 65% frozen but still plenty of open water to fish. I would guess by now with the warmer temps this week that the main part of the lake to be open water also...might be there Thurs. if I get desperate enough...

when I get my butt whipped at Springfield, Crystal springs provides good fishing...chronomids and hares ear are good patterns..
