Great Trip on the Victory
#1

Hey there guys,

I went out on the 3/4 day Victory out of Berth 55's Long Beach Sportfishing today.(formally called Queen's Wharf) The load was pretty light today with only about 25 anglers. Mike was our skipper, with the owner George doing the honors in the galley, with Cliff on the deck.

After getting a good mix of anchovies and some great sardines of 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 inches we headed out to Catalina. We also got some fresh dead from a squid boat when we got to the island. We fished the front side and enjoyed wide open Calico Bass fishing. Although we got a couple of hook ups from yellowtail, Mike correctly judged that the yellows were not to bite heavily today and we fished for other species.

Lots of Calico limits, a few Barracuda, Blacksmith Perch (Opaleye), and plenty of great fun. Somebody was always there to assist the beginners and regulars alike, be it taking care of tangles or being ready with the gaff.

We moved a couple of times during the day and not only found fish every time but were able to chum a good steady bite. Weather was great in the morning but the wind kicked up pretty strongly in the afternoon. Our last stop was around Bird Rock. We fished till 4pm and headed back getting to the dock at about six.

This crew makes the fishing experience fun and the catching while laid back yet also professional.

Oh ya, As for the eats: The galley fare, done by George, was its usual outstanding treat both in taste and volume.
