Utah Lake Walleyes & Whites
#1
I just got back from Linclon Beach at Utah Lake after a full days fishing. It was very interesting launching the boat, but well worth the effort.

The fishing was steady most of the fish were in 4 ft of water all around the warmsprings area. Be advised that the area was packed with wall to wall shore fisherman by 6pm I counted over 75 most of them in the water wading.

I anchored up about 100 yds offshore and cast back to the shore. Most of the hits were on the fall. Black and Charteuse tail 4" grubs. Funny I think the whole fishing community has the word on walleyebobs "special" grub. As I look down the shore line everyone was casting black/charteuse. I will say that my big walleye came on a white grub with a charteuse jighead.

What was my best walleye day ever didn't make me feel too good. A group of 25 people were shore fishing in a line around the warm spring area. They were keep too many big fish. I am all for keeping a fish to eat ,but these are big females. You might as well float gill nets in the area. I kept one fish to eat, but I know what selective harvest means. I called the DWR,but no one came[mad]. Our fisheries are hurt bad enough with the drought and budget short falls. I am sure the DRW can take one hour and partol the area. They would have made big bucks in fines.

Here is a pic of one of the walleyes.

Hey, that's a nice Utah Lake walleye! You're right, it's a shame when people are greedy and take too many of those females home, although I can still remember how hard it was to release my first 24" female, but once I got past that first one, it's easy now. I love to eat walleye, but bringing home what we can eat in one meal is plenty - - usually just one fish, or none at all. I'm glad to hear they're biting well at Lincoln Beach though. (I'm really sorry and frustrated that Yuba is dead!) Thanks for your info!

Thanks for the report PU and nice fish. Bob reported the same thing last week about people keeping too many fish, but I guess the DWR can only do so much. I think once they find out who the people are that are keeping all the fish they just give up. The last I heard, when the DWR takes them to court the judge just throws it out because they don't know the laws or at least that is what they claim. It sure isn't fair for the people that follow the rules, just my 2 cent worth. WH2

What a joke! I can't stand people that claim ignorance as a defense! I wish there was more that we could do to stop this kind of thing from happening. As if the lake wasn't strained enough as it is right now with the water being so low. These people that are taking so many big fish home are going to severely affect the population if they keep it up. If I understand it right, most of the year walleye are somewhat solitary in Utah Lake (correct me if I'm wrong). If they are all concentrated right now, and these people go down there every night and keep everything they catch, then there will be a lot less to spawn come April.

I guess I can go knock off a bank and then when they take me to court I'll just say that I didn't know it was against the law so I should get off the hook. [mad]

[#800000][size 2]I was there from about 3-5:30pm. I got a big white bass, a bullhead, and a Walleye about the same as yours from my float tube. I sat in about 4 feet of water dragging Bob's secret [Wink] in front of the springs and up to the point. I got a great seat to see the fire smoke. [/size][/#800000]
