Crappie setups
#1
I typically do trout and bass fishing, but every once in a while when I'm fishing the shores I'll land a bluegill/crappie with my trout lure.

When I was at the store the other day I noticed there are poles/reels specifically for crappie. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how a pole rigging would be different than the spinning rod/reel combo that I use for trout (light line, light pole, fast action).

Thanks!

Not sure with out seeing but they should be very sensitive might be longer and probably spooled with very light line.

Had some of my best panfishing with a cheap-o zebco 33 and a super light action 5 ft. ugly stik. spooled with 12 lbs red-cajun mono. Fast action isnt as important crappie can spit hooks but not as often as bass.

My current bass/panfish setup, is a $35 abu garcia cardinal 101 spinner, on a super light action ugly stik. with 15 lbs mono., decent all around setup.

Best deals on your super light action ugly stiks will be buying the combo for $25 with the crap reels and just slap a higher end reel on the stik.

The great thing about crappie is they will eat about anything that moves in the water and fits in their mouth. As for equipment what you use for trout will most likely work for crappie as well. The key when crappie fishing is light weight. I use a light spinning real and rod with no more then 8 lb line, i actually prefer 6lb line if I know all I will be doing is catching crappie that day.

I find myself in a mix of waters. So I might be slamming a 4-5lb bass, or a 12 inch crappie. just don't know (or a friggin carp takes a grab!)

Sometimes a curly tail does it, or other times I've downsized to an ice-jig, smaller than a penny. I wouldn't mind to try rigging up a wire like an umbrella rig. Can only run 2 hooks where I'm at.
Sometime nab a double even.

Here's a Crappie Collage I just put together . . .
They do dig the vertical structure - bridges, branches - stuff to hide amongst that'll eat your jigs like there's no tomorrow!
