Horsethief and Cascade reports
#1
Fished Horsethief today, and Kali and I limited in approx. 3 hours. If you got there earlier than us, the limits would come much faster. They start hitting verly light around noon. Stopped at Cascade and talked to a local at the ramp. He told me they had been hammering the trout--up to about 18"-- lately. For the specific fishing method that he shared with me, and the location, PM me if you are a person who shares info on this site. Sorry lurkers!!! Mike

I watched a guy pull in a 22" rainbow out of Cascade on Tuesday but he really knows what he is doing. I don't think if is real easy. I caught a few perch but it seems to be slowing down. I guess it's time to fish the rivers until the hard water happens. Congrats on your success at Horsethief.

Only 10 degrees in Cascade right now with a low of 2 and a high of 24 predicted for Satuday. I'm thinking we could have ice on Horsethief by T-day. What do you think? Could that be possible?

I was up at Cascade yesterday to winterize my place and the lake is not even close to having ice on it. The temp was in the 40's. I didn't fish as it was just a quick up and back with breakfast at Grandma's. It may start to ice up after this weekend with the cold and storms coming in.

Cascade usually takes a few weeks longer to ice up compared to Horsethief. I think we have a while yet on Cascade. Around a month or so, I think. But I am more optimistic about Horsethief. I think ice could be possible by T-day. Especially if we hit the predicted low of 2 on Saturday and 8 on Sunday with highs of 24 and 25.

Sounds like you didn't make it over to look at Horsethief. Someone with a first hand report would be interesting. I'd make a run myself, but we still have some open elk tags and some time to fill them, so I need to focus on that first.
