Need help with Boat Motor
#1
[red] I need to find out how big of an outboard I can put on my Fiberglass 17 ft Lonestar Boat. I have a 100 hp inline 6-cylinder Mercury on it now, but it is very old and I'm tired of looking all over the place for hard to get parts. I would like something around the same hp give or take a little . I know where I can get a 150 hp Mercury Outboard, but I don't know if it would be too heavy or not . Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.[/red]

[#ff0000] Thanks AFDan52[/#ff0000]

Dan,

I think the max HP rating is stamped on the Coast Guard ID tag. Should be a metal tag rivited to the hull somewhere.

are you just replacing the motor or the whole outdrive?

I'd find out what HP rating that outdrive is before putting a 200+ hp motor in front of it.

I dont know if your interested or not but I've got a friend that has that same motor in his boat and the block is cracked and he needs a new one. if you dont want alot for it or maybe I could do some horse trading to get your old motor I'd sure like to help him and you out. DZ
