I have often thought about putting a sturdy hinge or two in the middle of a large plank. That way I could take one along in my car.

Thats a very good idea , Plus it would make transporting it on the ice a lot easier . You wouldn't dare leave it there while you fished . Someone would steal it . And a 10' plank would not fit in a sled very well . Curt G.

I've had to go take my plank back from a "would be" theif twice. Both times the "would be" was pretty embarrassed. I like the idea of hinges. I wonder how strong they would be. If you try it, please let me know the results.

Ladders? Just a difficult to transport as a plank along with being more likely to get stolen. But it would work.
