Anyone been to southern Utah lately?
#1
SO last week i sold my bass boat....not too excited about that but done for the right reason! My girl has been nagging me about getting out to try some trout fishing and I am thinking about hitting up Baker Reservoir outside of St George. Checked on the Utah board and there are no new reports.

Anyone been that way lately? OR to any other southern Utah water that holds trout that is worth a road trip for? Taking our 9 month old daughter so its definitively not a hardcore fishing trip braving the elements, more of just a day out of Vegas with the hopes a finding a few fish from shore and spending time with the family.

Any suggestions?

My favorite spot in Utah is Panguitch, although I haven't been up in a few years. It is about 4hrs away just up the mountain from Cedar City. There are a few other places to fish within the area. Duck Creek Pond, Aspen Mirror Lake and Navajo Lake are very nice areas as far as the scenery. It is on a mountain so it is pretty darn cold this time of year. Sorry i don't have any recent intel.

You might post on the Utah board to see what kind of feedback you get. They tend to be pretty helpful over there.

I Was there last sat.with my dad. we were there 2.5 hours with just a few bites and no fish on shore. Thats very slow for that pond. On that day the lake was 2/3s ice free. we were not able to access the ice edge and it was a full moon so those could have been factors. when we left it was windy and the ice was taking a beating so it could be free by now. If you are set on trout Baker is probably your best bet especially since the rest of the lakes mentioned are probably Iced over. Just throwing out another option I herd the blue gill are biting at sand hollow. If you do go to Baker try lime twist power bait 3' off the bottom.
Tight lines!

Yankee meadows reservoir is worth the trip, it's between Parowan and Brian Head and filled with rainbow, cutthroat, browns, and splake - I always leave happy, and it's unbelievably beautiful there

To bad it wasn't summer there are a lot of places close to 3 hours from Vegas good fishing and camping. I grew up in so. Utah so if you ever need help let me know. You might get into some trout in Quail Creek maybe check Utahwildlife.gov and see the fishing reports or maybe try calling the DWR office. There is an office that actually sits on Quail. Hope that helps. Good luck.

All good info guys, appreciate it. We ended up doing more of a road trip and hit several of the lower lakes to scout things out. Baby was not digging the cold weather so i opted to just stay mobile until the day warmed up a little. Hey if you guys didnt know its a cold biatch in Utah lol.

Here are the placed we hit

Baker, COLD and icey. stayed for about an hour and hit the road.

Upper Sand Cove, a little ice no fish activity but i bet this place has some good bass in the summer.

Lower Sand Cove, iced over and low but looks like it would have some nice fish in it

Gunlock....man i cant wait til spring! water is up and after some of the bass i caught this fall i think this will be a hot spot in 2012.

Ivin Reservoir, looks bassy probably good in the summer but low as hell right now.

Stratton pond....was accosted by a rabid duck...stepped in some kind of poo, not sure what it was but i smelled it the rest of the day FML...

Quail...had most of the lake to ourselves and pulled in a couple nice trout fishing from about 1pm to 4pm from the shore near the boat ramp.

That trout looks a lot healthier than the stockers here around town. Good eating for sure. I hope I can make it up to Utah sometime this spring for some real trout.
