Twin Lakes warning !!!!!

There is open water in the channel between the lakes. More to the North end of the channel. With the upcoming cold and snow on top of it, it will be very dangerous. I unloaded my wheeler and drove across the south end of the channel yesterday and I know it was at least 12 inches. The ice where I was fishing today, on the North lake was 12 inches and very safe.

is this from warming temps or water rising?

There is no water going into the lake this time of year. It can only be filled by a canal or runoff from the surrounding area. Really haven't had any rain or snow to melt. The wind has been blowing and it has been above freezing, but like I said there was not open water on Sunday. I really don't have a good answer. The rest of the lake is good as far as I know.

im from Twin Falls and was wondering what kinds of fish do you catch there? any panfish?

There are, Rainbow trout, Large mouth bass, perch, bluegill, & white crappie. The trout are more abundant in the winter same as the perch. Its a little harder to find the bass bluegill and crappie..

Doesnt all the water come into Twin through a tube on the south west corner from the Bear River? I think/thought it did and they can bring it in any time they want. I dont think that its an open canal but enclosed all the way over. My guess would be that they may be bringing some, a low amount in through the tube, but, just a guess. If its open there and over 12 inches the rest of the lake(s) it would have to be due to rising water since that is where it expands the most. Check the SW corner of the south lake to see if some may be coming it through the tube if the tube is above the ice/water line. It may be under and you cant see it. Just a thought.

Yes the twin lakes water comes from a pipeline from Mink Creek. When they can bring water has more to do with the flows of mink creek than anything. which mink creek has had enough water to flow all year. I dont know if they would want water in that pipe during winter or what

The canal that feeds the lake is dry. I know this for a fact because I drive over it to get to the lake. They are not putting any water into the lake. The water that feeds Twin and several other resivoirs comes from Mink creek and additional water can be pump into the system from Bear river at the siphon from Oneida narrows. Twin lake water company owns and maintains that siphon and pump system.

Doesnt the pipe feed almost right into the lake? within 50 yards?

I think it feeds in on the south end of the south dam . Curt G.

As far as I know the reservoir is only fed by the canal on the south end of the south lake. If you look at it on google earth you can see the discolored water coming into the lake by the trees. They can either put the water into the lake from the canal above there or divert the water to the water users on the west side or if there is a problem on the canal and the lake is full they can dump the water into a drainage system called deep creek. Not to be with deep creek reservoir. The water is drained from the lakes and distributed to irragators only from the south lake.
My dad drug me down every road that belonged to the the Twin lakes canal company when I was a kid and my biggest fear was knowing he was going to drive in the canal at any time, because he never watched the road.

My understanding was that the water had been moved from the canal stricktly into the tube coming from the Bear River and yes when ive been over by the tube in the summer, it is right at water level and I thought depending on water level can be under water. I havent seen water in the canal for years, but, might be wrong on that.

it comes from mink creek im sure of that. if you go up the narrows you can see were the pipe crosses the river and comes off of the hill on the oposite side, a half mile up the narrows road. they could use some water from the bear but most comes from mink creek

Yep ive had to climb over that pipe many of times to fish that spot on the river.. It comes from not the river becaise the pipr goes right over and up that clifaide right there.. It runs every spring ive scrne water leaking out of the pipe all over.

there are a couple very nice holes if you cross it and go up or down stream. just be carefuly i have wacked my head awfuly hard crossing that pipe.

It would have to get some water from the Bear River, unless there are huge Carp in Mink Creek. I saw an enormous carp in there this summer, the first one I've seen since the last time they killed the lake.

No kidding hopfully it was the only one. We dont need the F&G to kill the whole lake again.. hopefully some one sees it and gets it out.. weather it be snaged neted speard pitchforked what ever hope its taken out befor the F&G learn of it and poisen the lake..

If they were to actualy have to kill it off again i would rather have the f&g say the helk with it and make the canal company buy there own fish...
