2012 Adult Trout Stocking Schedules Now Available
#1
HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is stocking adult trout in a variety of lakes and streams that are open to public angling throughout Pennsylvania in 2012 and has posted "where" and "when" those fish will be released at www.fishandboat.com.

Anglers can easily search the trout stocking schedules for locations and dates of interest. To make the list, simply go to www.fishandboat.com, click on the link for 2012 Trout Stocking Schedules, select a county and start and end date from the calendars at the top of the page, then press go. The search results will provide you with each body of water within a county that is scheduled for stocking, the section of water, the date, the species of trout, the meeting place and time, the hatchery stocking the section, the regulations that apply, and the latitude/longitude number.

The PFBC annually stocks approximately 3.2 million adult trout in waters open to public angling. About 52% are stocked prior to opening day; 43% are stocked between opening day and the end of May; and the remaining 5% are stocked from October through February of the following year.

The 2012 season will open March 31 in waters located in Adams, Berks, Bucks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Franklin, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton, Perry, Philadelphia, Schuylkill and York counties.

For the rest of the state, opening day of trout season is April 14.

Changes for the 2012 season include new waters, stocking extensions on waters as a result of water quality improvements, waters restored to the stocking program and the removal of waters from the stocking program.

The changes include:

New waters, stocking extensions & waters restored to the stocking program

Brady's Run Lake, Beaver County

Adult trout stocking will resume in this 25.9-acre lake following a drawdown for maintenance repairs and to remove sediment from the lake. Rainbow trout will be stocked during the preseason, in-season and late winter stocking periods.

Cold Stream Dam, Centre County
An in-season stocking will be added on this 9.9-acre impoundment for the 2012 season. Previously, this water was stocked on a preseason only basis.

French Creek, Erie County
A 3.9-mile section of stream extending from the Pennsylvania and New York state line downstream to the confluence with the West Branch of French Creek will be added to the adult trout-stocking program. Brown and rainbow trout will be stocked on a preseason only basis.

Hyner Run, Clinton County
An in-season stocking will be added to the 4.2-mile section of stream extending from the confluence of the Left Branch of Hyner Run and Right Branch of Hyner Run downstream to the mouth. Previously, this water was stocked on a preseason only basis.

Laurel Run, Clearfield County
Water quality improvements from liming operations in the drainage will allow for the addition of preseason stocking on a 1.8-mile section of stream extending from the outflow of Parker Lake downstream to the confluence with Abbot Run. Previously, this water was stocked on an in-season only basis.

North Park Lake, Allegheny County
Adult trout stocking will be restored to this 75.1-acre lake following the completion of maintenance repairs and the removal of sediment. Rainbow trout will be stocked during the preseason, in-season, winter and late winter stocking periods.

Towanda Creek, Bradford County
In-season stocking will be restored to the 14.7-mile section of stream extending from South Avenue (T-998) downstream to the SR 3001 Bridge and to the 1.7 mile section from the SR 3001 Bridge downstream to Con's Road (T-350) managed under Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only regulations. In-season stocking was cancelled on these stream sections in 2011 as a precautionary measure following a spill resulting from drilling operations.

Early warning waters (removed)

Coffee Creek, Warren County
Adult trout stocking will be discontinued on this 2.9-mile section of stream due to a combination of low angler use and poor access. This water was formerly stocked on a preseason only basis.

Glade Run Lake, Butler County
This 51.9-acre lake will be removed from the adult trout stocking program in 2012 due to safety concerns that required a complete drawdown of the impoundment.

Mill Run, Fayette County
Adult trout stocking will be discontinued on this 2.8-mile section of stream due to an increase in landowner posting. This water had been stocked on a preseason only basis.

Pleasant Stream, Lycoming County
Road closure from flooding in 2011 has led to the cancellation of adult trout stocking in a 4.7-mile section of stream extending from the confluence with North Pleasant Stream downstream to 1.0 mile downstream of the confluence with Long Run. This section of stream was formerly stocked on a preseason only basis.

Stocking removals for wild trout management

Beginning with the 2012 season, a total of six stream sections will be removed from the stocking program for the purpose of examining the potential of wild trout populations to improve over time with the cessation of stocking. This evaluation is being conducted in accordance with specific issues outlined in the Commission's Strategic Plan for Management of Trout Fisheries in Pennsylvania 2010-2014. Prior to 2012, each of these waters had been stocked on a preseason only basis. Waters included in the evaluation are as follows:

Greenlick Run, Clinton County
Long Run, Clinton County
Pole Bridge Run, Sullivan County
Rauchtown Creek, Clinton County
Shanerburg Run, Sullivan County
Three Springs Run, Bedford County
