OK, let there never be any debate on this forum as to whether or not you qualify to own the rights to "crappyslayer". And, no, I have never killed a Kodiak Brown Bear!! Nice fish. Mike

The biggest crappie I ever saw came out of Lake Lowell about 45 years ago. A guy who worked for me borrowed my rowboat and went fishing for bullhead out in front of our place. He came back in a few hours later complaining that he couldn't get any bullhead, but he did get a decent bass. I found his "bass" to be an 18" giant crappie. He took it home and ate it.

Too bad he didnt measure it. At 18 inches it might have been a new record. Yet mine was longer than the kid who caught the record vack in 2000

Those are nice crappies.
When my boy was about 5, we were at Strike and I was rowing our little boat back to camp. He was trailing his lure and got a big hit and fought until a huge crappie showed up. I've caught them all over the country and knew this was a great one. And of course, he got rough and the lip let go and away swam the fish. My boy still talks about that one.

I saw one come out of Strike last year that was just a hair short of 16". I've caught several there myself that were over 13" but have yet to break the 14" barrier. That's my goal for this year.

i have caught a few pretty long ones and have seen some caught. but i haven't seen any numbers of consistantly BIG crappie like we used to have in paddock res in the 70's and 80's 12-14"+ and thick. filets looked similer to the fish and chips at skippers restaurants.

Excellent crappie, slayer! I don't imagine crappie like are very common here in Idaho.
Used to jig up white crappies that size (2-3 lbs) fairly often at my favorite fishing hole in Texas. They are such strange fish--fight hard for about 15-30 seconds and then just give out. And those fragile mouths ...
