Hi! My grandfather started me fishing at about the age of two. I have fished in Oregon and Alaska currently I am trying to teach my girls to fish in Marsing, Idaho. My favorite place to fish was in Alaska, especially Nome. I am having a hard time figuring out what is the best tackle and bait to use fishing at the Marsing Island park. I like using open reels and that is what I started my girls with. Thank you for letting me be a member of your online group. [Image: happy.gif]

Welcome to the site Lynde, I'm going to move your post to our Idaho board so the local guys can say hi and maybe even give you some help with your question.

Welcome to the Idaho site, Lynde. The Marsing Pond is regulary stocked with rainbows. However, I checked for you and it hasn't been stocked since the first week in April with 450 fish. Still should be some in there however. My suggestion is to put about 2" of night crawler on a # 4 or 6 hook and add a scented mini-marshmallow. My favorite scent is corn, but it is no big deal. Put a weight about 18" - 2 feet above. Another option, which will also float your offering, is to use power bait. The orange and green is usually good. Likewise pink. Now, if you walk over to the Snake, you can fish the river for channel cats. Hope those girls connect with a lively one! Mike

Thank you for the information. My girls get excited when they snag grass thinking it is a fish so it would be great to see there reaction when they actually catch one. Thanks again for the help.

Welcome! Another option is to just use a worm and a bobber. If it is a small pond, you don't have to have a very long leader under the bobber.
