Tonight on Shooting USA
#1
Shooting USA - The Cowboy Fast Draw World Championship

We've got the fastest cowboys slapping traditional leather in the tradition of Hollywood's Old West Shoot-outs. The fastest guns go man-on-man in Fallon, Nevada at the Cowboy Fast Draw World Championship. Then, from Louisville, a police only, Duty Gear match, cops competing with the guns and holsters they wear on the street. It's one part training and one part competition at the Top Gun Match. Plus a Pro Tip for hunters on how to improve your cold-bore accuracy. The secret: Don't clean your rifle.

Shooting USA's Impossible Shots - Swing and a Prayer
Bob Munden takes aim at a swinging padlock, and then attempts a shot he compares to splitting a playing card in flight, cutting the swinging string that's holding the lock! Plus, compound bow master Randy Oitker is trying to better a world record he set on Impossible Shots. This time he's trying to hit six snack crackers, with six arrows, with just one shot.

The Story Behind the Story:

Craig Lamb writes the story behind the Shooting USA announcement video for the new M&P Shield. We were pleased to be asked to help Smith & Wesson introduce the new personal protection carry pistol, but being invited inside meant dealing with layer on layer of high security at the factory and even for our local gun dealer, Franklin Gun Shop. Read Craig's account of maintaining secrecy until the announcement on April 12th.

History's Guns with Garry James:

Mark Shafer and videographer Chris O'Rourke are in Kalispell, Montana this week with renown gun writer and collector, Garry James. They're working on a new series of History's Guns stories you'll see later this summer. Garry James is well known to long time readers of Guns & Ammo and American Rifleman magazines. His articles have appeared for more than twenty years and he's considered one of the foremost authorities on historic firearms. And working with Garry is something of a television reunion. In the earliest years of American Shooter, I worked with Garry at the Petersen Ranch in California, producing segments that were titled Great Guns in that series of shows. We're very pleased he's again joining us, 16 years later.
