Shore Fishing around Laughlin
#1
Does anyone having any good shore line fishing spots around Laughlin? I am heading down there in a few weeks for a weekend with my girlfriend. Love to fish, don't have a boat. I heard Big Bend of the Colorado State Park had good fishing, I just don't know if you can accomplish anything from the shore line.
I know of a good cove (I'm sure it has a name) just outside of Laughlin, down a washboard dirt road on the Nevada side. I've caught some bass there in the past, but usually by 10am the fish have moved to deeper water.

I've fished down there from shore a few times. Just above the dam there is a little concrete structure that juts out over the water. It is just past the campgrounds. There are rails with rod holders, and you can sit there and fish for stripers and catfish all night. The fishing gets really good when they open the dam.

Sounds like a good spot, I've never been able to catch a striped bass. Do you have any more details on the spot you were referring to? Is it on the AZ side or NV? Which camp ground is it near? Is it on the Lake Mojave side of the dam or the river side? I looked on google maps, but couldn't find anything conclusive.

So, it's just south of Davis Dam on the AZ side. Here is a link to a map.

I included a picture of the pier and a picture of the view of the dam from the pier.

You can use anchovies or sardines as bait here with much success. Squid, herring, and mackeral are also good striper baits.

The catfish will bite all night long on nightcrawlers, stinkbaits, frozen chicken liver, squid, shrimp and mackeral.

Good luck! Let us know how you do. And be careful of fluctuating water levels due to dam flow activity. I lost a big tacklebox as a kid down there when left it too close to the water. The dam opened up and washed my tacklebox away.

Excellent! Yeah I would have never seen that just looking on google maps. I've fished right across from that before, old (currently unused) camp grounds on the NV side, there is a little part that sticks out past the boat launch.

Thanks for the tips on baits and the location for the spot. Can't wait to land a striper! I'll post a picture if he's a lunker.

Almost forgot to ask. How would you recommend rigging anchovies/sardines and night crawlers? I don't know what the water depth is at this spot so would weight (off the bottom) or a bobber work better?

This week is never gonna end! Can't wait to get out there.

The current is pretty swift there, so rig up with a big 2 oz sinker on the bottom
