Paul,
Am pretty sure "TARE" refers to a memory that keeps the previous weight so you can see the difference in the next weight.
[url "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tare_weight"]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tare_weight[/url]
So for luggage, you'd weigh the EMPTY luggage, and then set the TARE to zero. Then you'd weight the PACKED luggage again, and it would tell you how much the CONTENTS weighed. Of course, you could just (almost) as easily weigh it two times and then do the math yourself... <g>
I haven't watched your video yet (am at work - shhhhhh!), but how much did that scale cost?
Thanks.
Bob

Bob your the best!
I got it..so now I can weigh say a large bag press tare
then weigh it with a fish inside!
The scale will subtract the weight of a bag or container for me without having to do the math!
I get it now...
The scale was cheaper than my old rapala scale wich was 20,this one was under that I remember..15 I think
maybe 10!
I'll double check for you next time at walmart[ ]
takes two of them round rapala digital scale batteries which were included..O and I sharpened the end of the hook but you probably already new that[ ]

Looks a lot like my electronic fish scale. I do use it to weigh luggage as well. Not sure why you'd worry about weight of contents? It's the total weight limit for flying that I'm concerned about. I know mine goes up to at least 70 lb.

Not sure if there are any fishing clubs near there, but I have heard bad reports about the Dubai desert safari. I have heard that they overcharge their customers, refuse to give refunds, they use cheap vehicles that often break down and the tour guides are rude. [#800000]I would suggest you not book a safari with the Dubai desert safari.[/#800000]

Not sure were you live but be warned Dubai's weather is a mix of the heat of Death Valley with the humidity of Key West. Wait for winter to go. The desert in southern Utah is far more spectacular but the drawback is it's harder to get an alcoholic drink in Utah than Dubai[shocked]. OK Utah did loosen up it's laws a couple years ago and about the same now. You do know Dubai is on the Persian Gulf. There are fishing charters but I haven't done any. Just don't get out close to those Iranians[crazy].

I agree as well with the other two comments about Dubai, be very careful if you go there. There have been reports of terrorist attacking and kidnapping people that go on the dubai desert safari.

I heard that folks were getting sick from the food and water. So you need to bring bottle water to this place. Remember, they don't like christians over there.

And the trolls, don't forget all the big ugly trolls. I think someone had some slip into a suitcase after visiting Dubai, and they must have got loose on our American fishing forum. Freaky!
Paul - now that your post has been thoroughly hijacked by Dubai pirates - I think you got it - but if you think of "TARE" as to "ZERO" the scale. You can put something on the scale - bag, tray - bucket, THEN set zero, so what you add is what you weigh.
I put the lid of my cooler on my scale, the spin it down to zero. Works great even with a simple baby scale.

I should of took a picture!
I had the camera with me but since it was shy of a state record just took my fish and left[cool]
The certified scale read 2.04,now watch this video of The Oscar I weighed..its not a state record but its now the new youtube record for biggest wild caught Oscar ![[Image: bobwink.gif]](http://www.bigfishtackle.com/images/gforum/bobwink.gif)

Nice catch Paul! They are such a pretty fish... reminds me of the Oscar I used to have in my fish tank. I used to feed it grasshoppers and nightcrawlers! <lol>
Thanks for the update on the scale too! The hook might be a little big/heavy-duty for fish that you want to return to the water... but that is easily fixed.
Thanks!

I have one more question about my luggage scale folks
It has three digits,0.00 I'm used to two 0.0
The first and second is lb and ounces that I know but what is the third digit..grams lol?
I have no clue what you call that last digit,0.0[#ff0000]0[/#ff0000]I'm sure there is some form of unit name for that measurement?
Heres another video of the biggest Pleco I ever caught I may of set a new youtube record for largest sail fin pleco[ ] at least for largest wild caught[cool]

Hey Paul...
I don't know your scale... but if the setting is pounds and OUNCES, then the first digit is pounds (it shows only one zero because there's no weight on it yet.), and the next two digits are for the number of ounces... two places up to 15, because at "16" (ounces), it would just flip over to one more pound.
1.01 = one pound, one ounce.
1.12 = one pound, twelve ounces.
But it the setting is just POUNDS, then the first digit to the right of the decimal point is TENTHS of a pound with the second digit to the right of the decimal would be HUNDREDTHS of a pound.
1.01 = one and one-hundredth pounds
1.12 = one and 12-hundredths pounds
1.40 = one and 4-tenths or 40 hundredths pounds.
It's one or the other depending on the calibration of the scale.
Hope that helps!
