7 1/2 - 8ft Heavy rod and a minimum of 65lb braid for casting it.
If you troll it over a period of time all of the wires will start to bow to the point the baits are almost touching. Keep a eye on them and re-straighten the wires now and then. (On some brands anyways. Maybe not all.)

I have two or three of them in the boat. Mostly unused. I HATE them. No fun to cast and just plain azz wears one out. I don't troll very darn often (I hate to run the big motor to troll) or chase Stripers often but did mess with it a little with a dipsy diver just to see one day.
I do have the smaller finesse version that Yum makes. A little triangle. I run two smaller Berkley 4" hollow bellies on it and a blade on the third arm or two Reaction Innovations 3 1/2" Little Dippers and a blade on the third. I don't cast it that often but do have it tied on a rod right now. I threw a SMB over the boat last weekend on it. lol He hit with less than a rods length of line and out and I SET the hook. lol Up up up and over my head and back in the water on the other side of the boat. Haha. My daughter was watching and wondering what in the heck I was doing.
I don't mind casting this set-up. No problem on a MH rod and 15lb Fluoro.

If you think you are going to go out there and be "easy" and toss a U-Rig on 30lb braid just because you have it don't. I thought that and tried that once... That sucker sure can fly a looooong distance once the braid backlashes on you and snaps. lol

This one looks like a good option for Mead - Pretty small, and you can always cut off strands or run teasers on the extra ones.
Never tried one out myself.

The downside to Mead is that we can only use two hooks. So tossing a big 5 arm or little 5 arm rig is all that extra weight that won't hook a fish. It might attract them and get them to the rig and hopefully one of the two hooks but it is just such a PITA to cast these things it completely takes the fun out of fishing IMO. Why I went to a finesse three arm (Ultralight Yumbrella). Light and simple if one wants to toss a swim bait why not toss two on a simple finesse set-up on rods already in the boat verse all the specialized HD equipment needed to specifically cast the bigger 5 arm rigs.
