Idaho Sturgeon Fishing
#1
Had a great trip to Idaho sturgeon fishing with my son. The fishing was good and the company was great. I am so happy that I could have such a great trip with my son....thanks Joe!!
I have attached a few photos of the 2 biggest sturgeon we caught. I only got 2 sturgeon to the boat, the biggest just over 9 feet, Joe got 6 to the boat one just over 8 feet, a couple 7 footers, the smallest a 4 footer.
It's been awhile since I posted so I hope it works.

Great looking sturgeon and the way you guys posed for the pic in the water looks great. Thanks for sharing your report. Looks like the same area I fish when up there. I'm guessing the 9 fter was aqround 400 lbs or so?

Nice!!!!!

We went yesterday, caught 4 and the biggest was only 6 ft. The bite turned off early so we went for ice cream. I love fall fishing, anyone wants to go send me a message.

Thanks for the kind posts. It was a once in a life time trip. I have fished with Kent J. three times in the same area. Kent has been my sturgeon mentor...
According to the charts the 9 footer would weight about 400 lbs and be around 50 years old !!
P.S.
Here's another photo

Wow Rob, way to go with catching some great sturgeon. Glad you finally landed a big one, but I didn't want you to beat my personal best.[frown] [Wink] Oh well, he is still in there and will be about 2" longer next year, when I plan on making it back up there.

I have to tell you the rest of the story about catching the 9 footer. It shows you what a great son I have. My son had the hot pole the whole trip. Friday he caught a couple of 7 footers and then an 8 footer. After he caught the 8 footer I thought that I should tell him to cut off a few feet of line and re-jig but I am getting old and it slipped my mind. Not long after that he got a few taps on his pole and he offered me his pole....I accepted and the fight was on. It was BIG as it pulled the boat up and down the river...then broke off. I was a little disappointed.
We went back to our spot and my son got a few more taps and he offered me his pole. Again I accepted. The fight is on again. When we would get a fish on we pull up the anchors so as not to get tangled up with them. In the mean time this fish is pulling off line in a hurry. I tell my son to start the motor so we can follow the fish.....I forgot the motor is out of the water !! By the time the engine is going I am out of line and staring at the knot that is holding the line to the spool !! The fish is pulling the boat and I am hoping a put a good knot around that spool !!
I don't know how I will ever have a better fishing trip than that one...Thanks again Joe for going with me !!!

Great rest of the story reply. One thing we do when up there is have the anchor rope tied to a red gallon jug, then when we get a fish on, we just untie the rope from the boat and throw it. Saves time on having to pull the anchor up. Sounds like it all worked out for you though but I bet it was a scary moment.

Sorry for the slow reply but I have been busy. It took only took about 15 or 20 minutes. My son had a 8 footer that took 30 to 40 minutes to bring in. My arms are fully recovered now. It was a great trip...

Wow that would be fun, I remember as a kid riding the train to montana along that big river in washington and seeing a guy hold one up as we passed by. Congrats on a great trip!

Man I wish we had fish like that around Central Texas. I've been meaning to get up toward Dallas to the Trinity River to do some gar fishing. They have been pulling 7-9 foot gar outta there for years. Its crazy to think that fish that big live in rivers. Nice pics by the way and sounds like a great trip.
