Huntington report
#1
I took my son down to snow college for an interview fri,so we went up to huntington to see if we could snag a couple of tigers.Got there around 10:30a.m. and fished for 2 hrs.I used a jakes lure(white with red and black spots, and a countdown repala brown trout)both lures were equally effective.Hits were steady, not fast, not slow, but not agressive(hard to hook)I managed to land 4, largest19.5" smallest 13".With snow and cold all the way down and back I was surprised to fish in nice warm sunshine and no wind at 9000'Was a great day for fishing(of coarse is'nt any day a good day to fish!} Lonnie

Thanks for the report Lonnie, fishing reports have been few and far between lately. When we were there a week ago we could not buy a hit on a Jakes lure but the speed that the lure is retreved makes all the difference. Wow, a 19.5 incher is a big one up there,we got one that was 19 inches and it was fat, almost three pounds. Were any of the fish you caught the gold or were they more of a silver color? WH2

Wiperhunter2 I fish the area regularly and I've found at huntington they are either hitting or their not. However on this trip there was a father and son there when I arrived who did nothing and soon left.I think the tigers seem to congregate near the outlet during the cold months as this is where I seem to have the most luck from oct to ice up.3 of the 4 fish landed were of the brillant orange/yellow one was more silver(cool looking fish)I caught the larger 2 on the repala and the other 2 on the jakes,Had alot more hits on the jakes lure however.I cast it ,let it sink, then retrieved with occasional light jerks to make it dance a little more, they seemed to like it much better with the jigging action. Thanks for the tip on using the Jakes lure, Lonnie. I've tried using them before with no luck but I'll have to say, it has always been while I was trolling. That area by the outlet was the deepest area that we marked last week at 27 ft, so I can see why the fish would head to that area in the winter. When we were there we did not catch any of the fish that have the orange/yellow colors just the silver colored Tigers. WH2

Ahhh, gotta love Huntington and those beautiful Tiger trout. Thanks everyone for the great reports. Gotta get me back up there next year. About when does Huntington usually ice off in the Spring, and is it good fishing then?

I've only been up there once but I'm sure one of the other guys will have an answer for you. Most trout lakes are good fishing right after ice off but again I've never fished it in the spring. WH2
