Cleveland-Boulger Hard deck 12/3
#1
I Left bright and early yesterday morning to head up fairview canyon. It had been snowing for the last few hours and the roads were slick covered with snow and ice. The temperature was 7 degrees on top at sunrise. My first destination was Boulger. I unload the quad and broke trail to the lonely little pond. Set off onto the ice and drilled the first hole. 9" solid of ice. Walked out to the middle and drilled a few more holes. 8-10" solid. The fishing was stupid fast. Catching tons of little rainbows from 8-12" in length. After catching over 50 planters I decided to call it quits around 11. Loaded up and headed over to Cleveland. Unloaded the quad and pushed through 10 inches of snow to arrive at the inlet area. Walked down and broke through the edge of the ice. Kept walking out about 20 feet and drilled the first hole. 1.5" thick. Took a few more steps and drilled again. 2" thick. I drilled several more holes and found where the fish about an hour later. The bite was consistent but not super fast. I caught 6 nice fat rainbows in the 3 hours that i fished. Decided to call it a day at 4pm when the sun went over the mountain. The high temperature of the day was 23 degrees and it had dropped to 16 when I was heading home.

Wow, that's scary. Glad you made it off the lake.

Cleveland bows are pretty nice, usually. Thanks for the report.

How was that portion of Miller Flat Road?

Average snow depth was about 3-5" of snow for the majority of the road. Snow drifts in a few spots over a foot deep but only 100 feet max drifts.

Great report Tyler. I love your enthusiasm to be the first one out on those lakes up there each year. Glad you had some great success. Just be careful buddy....1.5" is pretty scarry stuff! Be safe and continue with the great reports!

Thanks man i really appreciate that positive feedback. I wished I had someone to go ice fishing with on a regular basis without having to pay for everything. After my dad died last year there has been lots of solo trips. Guess it's good to get in touch with my inner peace though.

Yes it looks like it did a couple week's ago. Ice on the south end in the middle. All the shore lines is still open about 50-100 feet. Cleveland is a head of Huntington this year with about 75% of the lake covered.

LOL yea thats the exact same thing I was thinking when I drove by yesterday. The ice was forming all the way to the dam. It should only be a few days if temperature stays low like yesterday. That darn wind is the factor with Huntington. I want to try gooseberry tomorrow depending on what the weather is doing. I have never ice fished it before. Hey I might get lucky and get a shot at that SOB mountain man who is breaking into cabins in the area!

Lets go! Planning on heading up tomorrow and next Tuesday. I prefer going on the weekdays if you can go during the week? The weather this weekend said it was going to be really cold with snow. It should be completely covered by next week. For anyone heading up within the next few days use caution when walking out on the ice.

Uh-oh, if you guys start hanging out on a regular basis please don't re-name yourselves 'Tye Dye Tylers".
Or do it, that would be funny.

Just a quick question about that area, I have seen on the maps Fairview Lakes but I never hear of anyone fishing them, looks like there are a bunch of cabins around. Whats the deal with them, are they fishable?

Thank you for that report! I was thinking of taking my family there to Cleveland but 1.5 inches is no go for us! We will give it another week to solidify before we give that a go. Maybe head to the unitas or just wait a week. Crazy weather we should have been drilling for 2-3 weeks now...

Yes, they are fishable but after it snows, because they do not plow the road into Fairview Lake, it is either a long walk or one needs a snowmobile to get to the ice.
