Had your rods stolen lately?
#1
So, I just met a dude from KSL who was selling a bamboo fly rod and reel, along with another unknown rod and reel. He wasn't asking much and I could tell by the way he was talking that he had no idea what he was doing. Anyhow, the bamboo rod is decent, no name brand and looks like it's been done by someone with a kit perhaps? The real kicker is the reel -- it's a Perine automatic that is in amazing shape. It has line on it. The other rod/reel was an old Wright & McGill with an old Shakespear reel.

I know for a fact that this guy stole these, or got them in some other shady way. His story changed a little too much for me to buy it. So, I ask if any of you have had your rods stolen? These aren't anything special (except the auto-reel -- I LOVE these things), but they may have sentimental value. If you think they might be yours, you can have them back, and we can work to bust this meth head. Let me know.

Perrine auto fly reels are a dime a dozen. Example http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p...&_from=R40
Old bamboo rods even unmarked ones were the blue collar fly rods of the 50's along with the Perrine auto reels. Millions were made, and a lot are still around. Just because he doesn't know a lot about them, or "changed" his story, doesn't mean he stole them. And do you really know that he stole them, or got them in some shady way? Seriously? Go up to Idaho next summer and check out the garage and yard sales in some of the small towns and see what a $10 bill will get you.

Ya, I know they're a dime a dozen. And you got me, I don't know if they were stolen. I let my opinion of this guy overrule basic trust. Thanks for pointing it out.

In other news, MAJOR props to LOAH who met with me today and hooked me up with two beautiful Perrine reels, two bait casters, and the oldest/heaviest closed face spinning reel I've seen. The price was absurdly right, and it was great to finally put a face to the famous voice. Many thanks, sir.

Haha, that old Zebco 808 could be used to anchor your 'toon!

Glad they all found a new home.
