I just watched Stormy (Lindsay Storrs) on KUTV say that Duchesne was 15 degrees for the high and minus 5 for the low today. There has got to be some ice on that pond and with those temps it should build to fishable thickness soon. Anybody have a current condition update? I'm looking at Wednesday for a trip over there if the ice is good to go.
Mill Meadow and Forsyth were drained and treated so there's no perch fishing over that way. Starvation will be our go to spot for this winter.

The UDOT traffic camera on the US 40 bridge doesn't give a good enough look at the lake to see if there is any ice or not. Pikeman, where are you when I need some info?

Not current, but I drove by on Wednesday and there was a tiny layer of ice on parts of the cove just NW of the bridge. Rest of the lake looked like wide open water and from what i could tell it looked like it was a ways off. It's been very cold for three days since then so who knows.

I checked conditions Thursday Dec. 20. The cove northwest of the bridge had a thin layer of ice. It didn't look fish able. The shallows in Rabbit Gulch also had thin ice. So I agree with you, it shouldn't be long if these temps stay as cold as they have been the last couple of days. I think i will be hitting Pelican before I try Starvation.

Thanks for the heads-up guys. I think the last three days have made a big change in the conditions. It's been below zero here in Price and we've had very little wind. I'll bet Starvy is capped and the ice should build pretty fast with these temps.
I'd still like to hear from someone who's been by the lake today or may visit on Sunday. I'm preparing to head over Wednesday or Thursday if I can get a safe, fishable ice report before then.

I'll be there with bells, er.....cleats on! I'll bet it will be slick ice unless we get some of that predicted snow on Monday.

I drove by this afternoon and the lake is capped. I don't know what the thickness is, I didn't stop to check. The only open water I found was in front of the boat ramp and all of rabbit gulch. From the I-40 bridge all you see is ice. I may try to talk the wife into fishing it on Christmas.

Sorry I lost that battle. I wasn't able to convince my wife that Christmas was all about spending time with family on top of a lake fishing.

I'm a little surprised nobody has been to Starvation to actually check out the ice conditions. I know the lake has an ice cap near the bridge and I was hoping to fish just on the south side of the bridge where we did well in September from my boat.

I have a sneaking suspicion that guys are fishing Starvy and doing well and don't want to share the ice conditions just yet. Am I up in the night or did I hit your nail on the head?

If there's no Starvation report, I guess Scofield is an option if I can go tomorrow.

One of the other repors says," 1-2 inches of ice forming around lake with an opening at Rabbit gultch, but with cold temps coming, it shouldn't be long".

Drove past starvy today. Honestly didn't see anyone fishing it. Some open water but mostly capped.

Wow! look who's risen from the dead. Glad to see that your up and at'em. The hunts must be over in your neck of the woods or don't you guide much any more? The wife and I still have a late hunt in mid Jan. for cow elk down by Starvation so we will probably throw our ice fishing gear in as well. Hope to see you guys on the ice this winter, maybe Fontenelle.[fishin]

I'm getting the same third party reports. I was thinking of going to Scofield since I know the ice is OK. However, one of my guys just drove off with our work vehicle and all of my ice fishing clothing is in a gear bag in the back seat. I don't have the heart to have him drive back to Price just so I can go fishing.
It looks like next week will be the first trip. Ice on Starvy should be 10 inches thick by then.
Thanks for the information guys, be safe on this early season ice.

Mike, I have not fished it yet. I wait till 4 inches or more. The edges might be safe but I'd guess the places I'd like to fish only have a couple inches. I'll keep ya posted if any of that changes for me.

Good to hear from you. I'm looking forward to getting with you over that way. I decided to bag it today and do some chores around this place. We should be able to get out there next week. I'm looking at Wednesday or Thursday.

Just talked to a friend of mine that lives near Starvation and works in Duchesne, he said a friend fished Indian the other day and that there was 2 in. of clear ice near shore and 4 inches once you got out on the ice. [fishin]

Thanks for posting the link. The view is from the Utah DOT Trafficlink camera but the NOAA site has a much better picture quality.
I know we'll get over there next week.
