Met up with Bama and Skunked, and his bro - (spacing - is it Bigriggs....?)
They guys were already out by the time my son and I arrived. About 3 inches of clear ice, with several inches of snow and slush on top.
Fish were present, but finicky. We all got into some perch, and few bluegills and some small bass came to play.
The hike back UP the hill is a bit of a bear with water levels so low.
I had a technical malfunction and my SD card didn't come with today. Sorry, no pix. But sure had fun watching the fish rise up from bottom on the Finder. Now if I could just buy a hookset!
Maybe Mantua in the morning? At least the climb up from the lake is a bit less severe!

Yote, that was a fun day a little on the small size for the fish but fun tuggs anyway but hard to hook. Think I learned some equipment lessons ill try to fix for next time and I appreciate the bait assist. Nice to visit for awhile it was good to shoot the breeze a bit. Ended up filleting about 22 fish so between the five of us we didn't do bad considering the number we let go. Thanks for the fun. Later J

Haven't heard the term Boxing Day since I was stationed in England. Glad you were able to get on the ice, haven't made it out on the hard deck yet.[fishin]

Figgered some folks must think I was talking Friday Night Fights!
Folks are first generation Brit transplants. So you probably know what it's all about ? Salt for servants.
I'm sure hoping to have to use more than one hand to count my ice trips this year! But no joking - it can be a hell of a lot of working getting out, getting off. Look forward to thicker ice I can feel more confident exploring.
I think with the fresh caps I've hit - the fish are still getting "acclimatized" and the bit will pick up once they realize they've got their ice-caps on.

That was a blast I know I had a blast. Except the uphill climb was a little hard on my ankle you would think after 6 months my ankle would feel better what was boma saying about fiilleting a perch in 7 seconds

It should be fine by now. Was out on 2 inches plus of clear ice before the snows hit. Bet they've had some of the same surface snow/slush as we saw on Newton. But with the cold nights we've had, and more to come - I'll bet there's plenty of tracks to follow now.
Expect to see the circus come to town by weekend. Might still be a bit early for the dancing bears and elephants....

Hit Newton this afternoon. 4 inches of good ice. 2-3 inches of slush. Crust on top of slush in some places. My buddy and I caught crappie, bluegill, perch and some bass. No real size to any of them. Ranging in 12-20 ft of water. Entered on west side and drove back in to point across from east rope swing. Hope to see bigger next time. I did see a Muskie come up and look at my bobber. Real light bite on all the fish. Using a small bobber helped in detecting it over a spring bobber.
