Long time no post from me. Have been busy with school, work and our first kid, haven't had lots of time to fish like before. The reason for the this post is I'm curious where one would take some one ice fishing who has never been before. My father-in-law is coming in and I promised him to take him out on the hark deck. Any ideas on where to take him? I can do well at Current Creek most times but not sure if I want to drive the three hours from Cache Valley for just a day trip (and hope the roads are decent to be able to get up there). Hyrum an option obviously, but would like to catch him something a little bigger than a 12 inch bow.

Opinions?

Thanks

If you're in CV - as you know - Hyrum is accessible and action should be pretty good. Size - well, some of those 14" fight like there were slotbusters! Newton is an option, but it's quite a hike up to get out.
Mantua has been ok, though I expect things are slowing down. Pineview reports are picking up, may not get into much size, but if you can find a school of perch - the action should be hot.
There's also the Preston area lakes. Haven't been up myself, but hope to while ice is on.
Be glad to tag-team if you want some company. I'm also in the Valley, and glad to hit the ice, any chance I can get (Porcupine?)

You should consider some of Idaho's reservoirs.
Close to you and great fishing.

Thanks for the advice. I never have much action up at the pig, I'm lucky if I get a bite when I head up there. I've never really thought much about heading up past the Idaho border, me and my brother talk about it but never follow through. We might just fight the crowd and hit up Hyrum, I'll let you know for sure Coyote and maybe we can hook up, alway fun to fish with someone new.

Really I should take him somewhere slow, everytime we visit in Texas and he take me out we always get skunked.

Most likely hit up Hyrum, any opinions on which lake we should try if we do venture to Idaho.
